Reaching Out to Open Hearts & Lives with the Gospel of Jesus
Kremenchuk is in east central Ukraine in the Poltava Region, 4 hours south of Kyiv, the capital. It is a city of 232,000 people.
My fellow Missionary partner, who is self-supporting, will start Dec 2018 -Feb 2019. Our Ukrainian preacher will start Jan 2019. I will arrive August 2019 and normally be there 9 months out of the year.
The Mission is Five-Fold:
- Planting a new church of Christ in a city where there is only 1 small church of Christ and a new Church in the village with the Orphanage we work with
- Have a full-time Ukrainian preacher work with us
- Encourage & mature local Christians. The church will be planted with 10-15 Christians ages 25-35 years old. All ages welcome!
- Multi-level Evangelism
- Orphan Homes & Boy’s Prison
In the summer of 2000 I went on a mission for 6 weeks with three York College students. I moved to Kremenchuk September 2002 and worked full time there through July of 2008. I have returned 6 times for short mission trips since then, the last time being the summer of 2016.
During the 6 years that I lived there, we had 48 baptisms with 90% retention rate. We planted and worked with 5 churches of Christ. We taught Bible in 7 of the 30+ schools of first through 11th grades. We also reached out to students in the Universities and Technical Schools in the city. We were always active in reaching out to the parents of the young people that we worked with.
In the summers we held Summer Bible Classes and then conducted Bible Camps at the Black Sea. Both of these were very effective in reaching the lost and strengthening the young Christians.
Much more detailed information is available on the history of this work.
Startup costs are approximately $3,000. Monthly costs for a Ukrainian preacher is $600. Monthly work fund is $800. My living expenses will be paid from my Social Security.
Over the last 16 years, there has been a great effort made to blend the young people that became Christians within the older members of the only other church of Christ in the city.
This has proved to be very difficult. Over time, the young Christians have been alienated in several different ways. These young families need a Godly, Biblical church family that they can grow and develop in and become the Christ-like body that God wants them to be.
Our hope and desires are to be a healthy and supportive 2nd body of Christ to enhance the growth of the Lord’s work in the city.
We will be bringing on a preacher/minister/evangelist from one of two church of Christ schools of preaching in Ukraine. We are confident that this man, either single or with a family, will be ready to join the work by January 2019.
With my American co-worker and I there most of 12 months out of the year and our Ukrainian preacher full time, we know the Lord will grow our body spiritually and numerically. There are 10-15 Christians with young families that are ready to be part of this work. All ages and people are welcome!
We will use English to teach the Bible and the Bible to teach English. We will use EEM’s teaching materials that have already been approved by the Ukrainian school system. We will evangelize person to person and group outreaches as well.
We’ll also use friendship and fun to attract and draw people to take a look at Christ.
There has been a great deal done in orphanages outreach in the city and area already. We have a Christian family running one orphanage. We hope to bring many orphans to the Lord through this work
The boys' prison work to 14-18year old boys, with a prison of 350+ was started in 1998. The Lord’s work grew to having 120 people in this in prison church of Christ. This work has continued, and we wish to continue to be apart of this where the boys are literally starving both physically and spiritually.
”But brothers, when we were torn away from you for a short time (in person, not in thought), out or our intense longing we made every effort to see you. For we wanted to come to you – certainly I Paul, did, again and again – but Satan stopped us. For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when He comes? Is it not you? Indeed you are our glory and joy.” I Thessalonians 2:17-20.
Please pray for this ministry in all aspects.
Please pray that a church of Christ will step forward to become my sponsoring church to oversee this work of the Lord. This is an essential requirement that needs to be met to have a church in the US to anchor this work.
Please pray that the right Ukrainian preacher will come to work with us.
Please pray for the lost souls that their hearts will stay open until they can receive the message of Jesus.
I have been in full-time ministry in the Church of Christ for 33 years and 6 years full-time mission work in Kremenchuk from 2002-2008. I have for the last 4 years preached for the Ephrata, WA Church of Christ.
A Ministry Overseen by the Elderships of the:
Church of Christ
Where you live
That cares for the lost and
Will answer the call of Jesus
I have been gone for 10 years, but my heart has never left this country, this city and especially these brothers and sisters in Christ that need a church home so desperately to grow and blossom in the Lord!
Please help make this “planting” a reality! Thank you for your prayers, love, and concern.
